New Mercedes C-Class 2027 Facelift! A More Traditional Benz?

Mercedes has been taking big risks with design lately, and while some will love that, many buyers still want a car that looks and feels like a Mercedes saloon should. That is where this C-Class facelift comes in. Mercedes even uses the same “Welcome Home” feeling it used around the new S-Class, and visually you can see why. The front end now moves much closer to the E-Class and S-Class, with a larger grille, stronger vertical presence, the Mercedes star pattern, new contour lighting and a more premium face. It is not a revolution, but it does bring the C-Class back in line with the bigger saloons in the range.

Underneath, there are more meaningful changes too. The petrol and diesel engines have been updated, with the new M254 EVO petrol engine using an electric boost compressor for sharper response, while the OM654 EVO diesel continues with improved efficiency and mild-hybrid support. Plug-in hybrids also return, now using a 100kW electric motor, a 19.53kWh usable battery, up to 100km of electric range, 11kW AC charging and 55kW DC rapid charging.

The C-Class also gets a major technology lift. It now uses the latest MBUX generation powered by MB.OS, with over-the-air updates, more than 40 apps, an AI-based MBUX Virtual Assistant, Google Maps-based navigation, Google Cloud Automotive AI Agent support and augmented-reality navigation from the S-Class and EQS for the first time in the C-Class.

Mercedes has also upgraded the driver assistance and lighting technology, with up to 10 cameras, 5 radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensors, MB.DRIVE Assist Plus with motorway lane-change assistance, MB.DRIVE Parking Assist and a new generation of DIGITAL LIGHT with micro-LED technology. Mercedes says illumination resolution is improved by around 40%, while energy consumption is reduced by up to 50%.

The changes continue inside, where the C-Class gets new colours, new leather and Nappa leather options, new trim finishes, and an enhanced Burmester 3D Surround Sound System with Dolby Atmos, 15 speakers and a 710-watt amplifier. The Estate remains the practical choice too, with 490 to 1,510 litres of boot space, a standard EASY-PACK tailgate and a retractable load cover with partition net.

Of course, we also need to talk AMG. The four-cylinder C63 was one of the most controversial AMG cars ever, and the C43 never truly replaced the emotional appeal of the old six-cylinder cars. Now AMG is preparing a new C53, expected to bring a much stronger EVO engine, wider C63-style bodywork, a revised exhaust and around 450HP. The V8 will be saved for the CLE.

The new C-Class facelift is not trying to completely reinvent the compact executive saloon. Instead, it takes the familiar W206 formula and gives it a more confident Mercedes face, better technology, updated combustion engines and a cabin closer to the larger cars in the range.

The question is whether that makes this the C-Class buyers actually wanted: not radical, not electric-only, but a more refined, more familiar and more traditional Mercedes-Benz. A full driving review will follow as soon as we can get behind the wheel!
