The all-new BMW X5 is here!

Mat’s flown over to Germany to get up close and personal with this all-new BMW SUV. The question is, will it be an improvement on the previous generation? Let’s take a closer look…

In terms of the design, one of the most striking elements is the use of the X in the LED headlights! There are two Xs on either side of the front end, used as either adaptive headlights or for the hazard warning lights. They sit on either side of a thin, vertical grille that comes with light surrounds, with all of these sitting above an aggressive-looking front bumper. The bonnet also comes with creases down the centre to give it more presence. Along the side you’ll find door handles which seem to be lifted from the Purosangue, and at the back the taillights stretch across the rear end.

The inside of the new X5 is super stylish. It comes equipped with the same full-length Panoramic Vision screen as found in the iX3. This sits below the windscreen and comes with a lot of customisable options. There’s also the same infotainment and passenger screens as found in the iX3, with all of the cars functionality and climate controls housed within the former. There’s lots of storage throughout the cabin, and there are soft touch materials across all surfaces high-up in the cabin.

In terms of engines and batteries, the new X5 has five propulsion choices: Petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid, electric and hydrogen! However, here in the UK, there are only three options. The first is diesel power, with a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six that delivers 313hp and 670Nm. Then we have the plug-in hybrid petrol, which has the same size engine as the diesel plus an electric motor. These combine to produce 612hp and 800Nm, and it offers up to 63 miles of electric range. Then finally we have the EV, which has dual motors, a 140kWh battery, and 578hp. It also has a claimed range of up to 497 miles.

We don’t have the prices of the new X5 yet, but the question is, would you choose this over competitors like the all-new Audi Q7? Let us know in the comments!
