New Mercedes GLE 53, GLE & GLE Coupé! First Look + AMG Sound!

The Mercedes-Benz GLE has always been one of the most important SUVs in the luxury segment. From its roots as the ML-Class — the car that helped define the modern performance SUV — to today’s GLE range, it’s always tried to balance luxury, capability and presence in one package.

But the last update? Lazy work. Why? Because Mercedes banked on electric EQ family like the EQE to take over. Big mistake.

This 2026 Mercedes GLE Facelift changes that completely. With a much more assertive exterior, a fully updated interior built around MB.OS and the Superscreen, and one of the most comprehensive engine line-ups in the Mercedes range — this is finally the GLE that feels worthy of sitting alongside the latest S-Class and E-Class. And crucially, Mercedes hasn’t held back on combustion updates.

Across the range, you get updated inline-6 petrol and diesel engines with 48V systems, improved refinement, and more torque than before. There’s also the plug-in hybrid GLE 450e, now pushing further into real-world EV usability. And at the top of the standard range sits the return of a proper V8 — the GLE 580 — with more power and improved efficiency.

But the real focus today is the new Mercedes-#AMG GLE 53. Now offered in both mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid forms, it uses the updated M256M EVO inline-6 with a revised cylinder head, new intake system, and higher revving capability. The mild hybrid delivers 450hp and 640Nm with overboost, while the plug-in hybrid steps up to 585hp and 750Nm — bringing serious performance back into the GLE line-up.

On the chassis side, the standard GLE range also sees major improvements, with retuned steel suspension, optional AIRMATIC, and the advanced E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL system capable of controlling roll, pitch and lift individually at each wheel.

Inside, the biggest transformation is the move to the new MB.OS architecture. With the Superscreen, improved processing power, and an upgraded sensor suite — including up to 10 cameras, 5 radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensors — the GLE now brings it fully in line with Mercedes’ latest tech stack.

And for the first time in a long time, it feels like the GLE is no longer being overshadowed by smaller or electric alternatives.

In this video, we take a full look at the 2026 Mercedes GLE SUV, the GLE Coupe, and the all-new GLE 53 AMG — breaking down design, interior, sound, and the key technical changes that actually matter.

So the question is — has Mercedes finally brought the GLE back to where it should be? And more importantly… which version would you choose?
