I attended an official Mercedes-AMG Digital Model Strategy Round Table on 5 February 2026, where AMG laid out its roadmap for 2026–2027 — and confirmed some of the biggest powertrain and model changes we’ve been speculating about for years.
his wasn’t a launch event. It was a closed-door strategy meeting with #AMG leadership, covering engines, future models, hybrids, EVs, and the long-term direction of the brand as AMG approaches its 60th anniversary.
The headlines are big: the four-cylinder era is over, the inline-six is back as the backbone, the new flat-plane #V8 is confirmed, and Black Series will live on. Most importantly, AMG openly acknowledged that many of these decisions were driven directly by customer feedback.
I’m Raz — aka Mr AMG — and welcome back to Remove Before Race. In this video, I break down exactly what was said, what it means for upcoming models, and why this feels like a genuine reset for AMG rather than another pivot.
In this video, we’ll cover:
Why AMG has officially cancelled the four-cylinder
The inline-six returning as the core AMG engine
Entry-level AMG after A 35 and A 45
The new flat-plane V8 and how it replaces the current V8s
What this means for CLE, E 63, S 63 and future models
The future of plug-in hybrid AMGs
AMG’s EV roadmap — and which cars stay ICE
Mythos, Track Sport, and Black Series confirmed
AMG is rebuilding its engine ladder instead of jumping straight to V8s.
Hybrids will now be decided car by car, not by default.
EVs are coming — but GT and SL remain combustion.
And GT Black Series isn’t a question. It’s an obligation!!
The reset has begun!
