When Mat last got his hands on the all-new BMW M5 he was a bit disappointed regarding how it’s evolved from the previous edition.
However, now he’s had the chance to drive it several times, he’s wondering if he was wrong when he gave his last verdict! To put it to the test, we’ve brought together its key competitors - the RS7 Performance and Mercedes-AMG GT 63.
So of course, given how powerful these machines are, we need to look at the stats! The BMW M5 is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor, which combine to produce 727hp and 1000Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed auto, weighing a colossal 2,435kg!
The RS7 is powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8, and this creates 630hp and 850Nm. This performance is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed auto, and it weighs in at 2,065kg.
Then finally we have the AMG. It’s also powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8, which creates 639hp and 900Nm. It’s equipped with a 9-speed auto gearbox, and it tips the scales at 2,135kg.
So the BMW clearly has the performance, but of course, it’s not like an owner of this car will be drag racing it daily! With that in mind, not only is Mat going to test their performance, but he’ll also give each car a proper Carwow review. He’ll look into their design, their interiors, and what space is like in the rear, and of course, he’ll take each car for a drive.
