蘋果網路爬蟲Applebot證實存在！
先前業界傳言蘋果可能悄悄在發展自己的搜尋技術，現在媒體則發現蘋果在技術支援網頁上透露其網路爬蟲（web crawler）技術Applebot。
蘋果指出，Applebot是用於Siri及Spotlight等產品提供用戶建議的網路爬蟲，能與客製化的robots.txt規則及robots元標籤（meta tags）相容。它源自蘋果擁有的IP網址區塊17.0.0.0。蘋果並指出，Applebot與Google的Googlebot運作方式類似，因此如果它未找到Applebot的專門指令，就會遵循Googlebot的指令。
原本蘋果是和Google與微軟合作，以其搜尋引擎為蘋果的產品提供答案，但去年11月有開發人員發現數筆資料是來自蘋果IP網址區塊的機器人。今年二月間並有媒體發現，蘋果正在召募Apple Search的工程專案經理，使蘋果悄悄發展自有網路搜尋技術的消息喧囂塵上。至於蘋果是要發展自有品牌的搜尋引擎，還是只是用在Siri及Spotlight等產品上做為其他廠商搜尋引擎的輔助，則尚不得而知。

User-agent strings will contain “Applebot” together with additional agent information. For example:

If robots instructions don't mention Applebot but do mention Googlebot, the Apple robot will follow Googlebot instructions.
